The Bhagabata Puraṇa, also known as
Srimad Bhagabata Maha Puraṇa, Srimad Bhagabata or Bhagabata is one of eighteen
great Puranas of Hindus.Originally written in Sanskrit is available in most of
the Indian languages.It promotes devotion to Krishna integrating themes from
the Advaita(monism) philosophy of Adi Shankara.
Bhagabata Purana discusses a wide
range of topics like cosmology, genealogy, geography, mythology, legend, music,
dance, yoga and culture.
The illustrious origin of this great
treatise goes back to the bank of the holy Ganges where Srimad Bhagabata came
out of the lips of Sukadeva in the spiritual fiesta organized by king
Parikshita.
The Bhagabata is a bhakti text, with
an emphasis on achieving moksha through cultivating a personal relationship
with Vishnu in the form of Krishna.
The Bhagabata declares itself the
essence of all the Upanishads and derivative Smritis. The Srimad Bhagabata
is the very essence of all the Vedanta literature.
The Bhagabata is widely recognized
as the best known and most influential of the Puranas. It is sometimes referred
to as the "Fifth Veda".Bhagabata is important in Indian religious
literature for its emphasis on the practice of devotion.

written by Saint-Poet Jagannath Das(Jagannatha Dasa) who was a poet of

of 'Atibadi'(meaning Very Great) upon Jagannath Das.
Atibadi Jagannath Das and his
contemporaries Achyutananda, Balarama,Sishu Ananta and Yosabanta Dash were the
five comrades and pioneers of Bhakti movement is Odisha.
